Why does the program need a body of knowledge?
The Body of Knowledge forms the core structure of the ASME Plant Inspector Certificate Program controls the content and format of the training course and assessment provided by the program. It also serves as a vehicle for establishing and maintaining the validity of the content to the in-service inspection industry.
How is it structured?
It is structured around the technical knowledge required by the plant inspector. The Level 1 certificate fits in with the way that inspection duties divide themselves in most industries. The Level 2 certificate covers the generic activities of higher level inspection and evaluation across many equipment categories, as the principles are similar.
Is it based on codes from a single organisation or country?
No. That can result in a one-sided technical viewpoint. This program utilizes codes and references from different worldwide sources, giving a comparative view across the range of inspection practices.
Is it up to date or lost in the past?
The Body of Knowledge is reviewed every 12 months to keep it current with technical developments in the inspection business, industry feedback, and with changes in inspector roles and career paths.
