The advantages of NII

For most process operators there are clear advantages in replacing some traditional Internal Visual Inspections (IVI) with Non-Intrusive Inspections (NII) done from the outside of the vessel. Done properly, NII can reduce cost and mechanical disturbances of the plant, and allow better future planning for shutdowns when they do occur.

Simply replacing IVI with NII is rarely good enough so Integrity Managers need proper technical justification when presenting NII recommendations to clients. The Matthews Training course Non-Intrusive Inspection to DNV-RP-103 will provide delegates with the understanding of DNV-RP-103 necessary to be able to write an NII Decision Guidance Report for process vessels. Practical exercises are carried out using documentation record packs and previous inspection reports for actual vessels. This is supplemented by hand-on visual inspection of the vessels themselves in the training facility.

Is this an examined course?

Yes. To pass the course delegates have to demonstrate their learned knowledge of DNV-RP-103 by achieving a minimum 70% in  combined multichoice and narrative exam. In addition they have to produce an assessed individual NII decision guidance report to a high standard

Who should attend?

Delegates should have:

• A basic understanding of NDT and its limitations

• Knowledge of the content of written schemes of examination (WSEs)

• An understanding of how pressure plant inspection scopes and periodicities are decided in process operation and inspection companies

• Previous hands-on experience of inspecting vessels and producing inspection reports. Delegates without such engineering experience will find it difficult to meet the reporting requirements of the examination exercises.
