Our ASME Plant Inspector Level 1 is a 5-day entry-level course for those wishing to consolidate their experience before moving on to ASME L2 or API inspection qualifications. It is also the main route for inspectors and technicians planning a move into plant inspection from another discipline (such as NDT, weld inspection etc).Unlike some other schemes It is specific to the discipline of in-service inspection and does not dilute the subject by covering new equipment ‘shop’ inspection ,welding or NDT

The ASME Level 1 course contains combined classroom and hands-on workshop training covering the basic topics of in-service plant inspection.

• The PSSRs (Minor systems):Responsibilities, Written Schemes,
• Inspection of Vessels, Pipework and Heat Exchangers
• Basic stress /corrosion calculations
• Basic application of API inspection codes
• Corrosion severity
• Inspection reporting

The course content is heavily based around the requirement for technically accurate inspection reports. In occasional venues where hands-on inspections are not possible, additional course content is added to replace the practical exercises. All course material, text books, exam and certificate costs are included in the course fee.

The course has a 90 minute examination comprising multi choice and descriptive questions designed to test the delegate’s understanding of the course material. There is also an assessed vessel inspection reporting exercise. Delegates who reach the exam pass mark of 70% receive a certificate awarded by ASME. This certificate is specific to the individual delegate and is currently non-renewable

The ASME L1 runs as a public course (open to company-sponsored or self-funded delegates) and additionally as in-house courses at clients’ premises, by arrangement.

The course is suitable for people currently working in the engineering industry with a basic engineering knowledge and who have had some contact with the world of NDT, welding, inspection etc. The course contains minimal maths and does not require a high academic level.

This course is operated by Matthews Engineering Training Ltd. Fees for the course are £1895 +VAT per delegate to include all course materials, books and ASME exam/certification. To reserve a place contact Cliff Matthews directly on enquiries@matthews-training.co.uk .
