Pressure Equipment Code Design is a three day course. The outline of objectives for delegates attending this course are:

• To gain an understanding of the fundamental engineering processes and principles of pressure equipment design

• To understand the role of vessel and pipiework design codes in influencing vessel design features, stresses, materials and inspection/testing requirements

• To enable delegates to carry out code design/appraisal/assessment on straightforward pressure vessels

Typical content includes:

• Vessel and pipework failure modes
• Thin shell theory
• Basic calculations: shell/heads (elliptical/torispherical/cone):Overview
• Basic calculations/tables for reinforcement of openings
• Discontinuity stresses: head-to-shell
• Basic calculations: bending, saddles: Overview
• Principles of welded joints/joint efficiency
• Allowable material stresses and basic material types
• Low temperature/impact strength design issues: overview
• Creep rupture design issues
• Fatigue strength design issues
• Hydrotest/shakedown:Overview
• PED requirements: Overview

The course explains the similarities and differences of the main vessel and pipework design codes EN13445, ASME V111-1 , PD5500, ASME B31.3/16.5.Common design rules and code content/appendices are explained in straightforward terms. Delegates will participate in step-by-step exercises showing how to design a pressure vessel.

It is intended for technicians and engineers with an interest in pressure equipment design but without a detailed knowledge of codes and stress analysis. It is a practical rather than an academic ‘university type’ course so all you will need is a reasonable (Secondary School) understanding of Maths.

The presenters

The course is presented by experienced engineers with current experience as pressure vessel designers in industry. They emphasise a practical, rather than an academic, approach to vessel design and have long experience of the manufacturing and use of vessels in industry.

This course is operated by Matthews Engineering Training Ltd. Fees for the course are £1695+VATper delegate to include all course materials, books and exam/certification. To reserve a place contact Cliff Matthews directly on enquiries@matthews-training.co.uk
